As the basic safety use standard for the crane industry, ISO 12480-1 has provided important guidance for the safe development of the industry since its release in 1997. However, with the continuous advancement of technology and the rapid development of the industry, some contents in the original standard have gradually failed to meet the current safety use needs. For this reason, Zoomlion proposed to revise the standard to the International Organization for Standardization Crane Technical Committee (ISO/TC 96), which was unanimously supported by the committee.

In August 2021, ISO 12480-1 started revision from the Committee Stage. Yu Lihu, assistant general manager of Zoomlion Construction Hoisting Machinery Co., Ltd., served as the project leader, and formed a project team with 24 top experts and scholars from the United States, Germany, Japan, Australia and other countries. After in-depth research and integration of new technology development results, and multiple rounds of in-depth discussions on the reference and application of the original standard in different countries and regions, the new standard was officially published and issued on August 6, 2024, providing more scientific, reasonable and comprehensive guidance for the safe development of the global crane industry.

Project leader Yu Lihu said: "Since the official launch of the revision work, the project team has held 16 online and offline meetings. After three years of hard work, more than 500 modification opinions have been resolved, effectively ensuring the scientificity and rationality of the new standard."

It is reported that the new version of the standard has made more detailed provisions on the safe use principles of cranes, especially the safety work system, personnel responsibilities, crane maintenance, inspection and working condition monitoring, as well as special operation scenarios such as combined lifting. At the same time, it also comprehensively supplements the requirements for the safe use of cranes with new technologies such as remote control, which are not covered in the original standards, helping to further ensure the safety and efficiency of the operation process.

It is understood that this is the fourth international standard in the field of construction machinery issued by Zoomlion. So far, Zoomlion has led and participated in the formulation and revision of 30 international standards, including 4 issued and 8 under research. It is the first Chinese company in the industry to lead the formulation and revision of international standards and obtain formal publication and issuance, and also the Chinese company with the largest number of issuances.
