The World's First 18-20MW Wind-Storage-Load-Grid Integrated Wind Turbine

August 15,2024

On August 4, China Energy Construction Guangdong Thermal Power completed the installation of the world's first 18MW-20MW integrated wind-storage-load-grid offshore wind turbine at the wind power coastal test base in Shantou City, Guangdong Province.

This unit is the third generation unit of the Poseidon platform, targeting the offshore high wind speed market, with a larger capacity and lower cost per kilowatt-hour. It is understood that the annual power generation of a single 18MW wind turbine can reach 72 million kWh, which is equivalent to reducing coal consumption by nearly 25,000 tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 60,000 tons, which is more than 60% higher than the annual power generation of a single 11MW model currently installed.

This hoisting used the SCC52000TM (a 2,000-ton + 1,600-ton combined vehicle), the first "two-in-one" crawler crane put into production and application in China owned by Guangdong Thermal Power Company. It was used as the main crane and the 260-ton crawler crane was used as the auxiliary crane to coordinate the installation of the wind turbine. During the hoisting process, it experienced the threat of Typhoon Gemei, the invasion of severe convective weather, and the continuous test of high temperatures in the hot summer. Through the close cooperation of various teams, the hoisting work was successfully completed.

Previously, SCC52000TM has completed the installation of 13MW offshore experimental wind turbines and undertaken the "Hualong One" nuclear power dome hoisting task. Its main body SCC20000A completed the installation of 18MW test wind turbines. This time, the SCC52000TM solution was adopted, which has more advantages in hoisting stability and operating efficiency.
