On October 1, 1966, when China's first wheel loader - the Z435 rolled off the assembly line at LiuGong's factory, no one could have predicted that this manufacturing enterprise, tucked away in the southwest corner, would, with six decades of innovation and perseverance, spark a technological revolution that spanned half a century, re-carving the trajectory of China's wheel loader industry development.

From technological borrowing to independent innovation, from rigid frame to articulated steering, from roaming the plains to conquering the "forbidden zones of life," from mechanical control to "intelligent" equipment with "thought"... Each technological leap at LiuGong not only refreshes the height of its own products but also leads the technological direction of China's wheel loader industry, writing an epic of breakthrough, inheritance, and leadership in Chinese equipment manufacturing.

Three years after the birth of the Z435, this pioneering piece of equipment in China's wheel loader history faced the dilemma of large turning radius and insufficient operational flexibility due to the rigid frame and rear-wheel steering structure, making it difficult to adapt to increasingly complex engineering construction scenarios.

LiuGong's people keenly realized that a technological change was imperative.

In July 1969, the First Ministry of Machine-Building entrusted LiuGong with the development of a 5-ton high-horsepower wheel loader. At that time, articulated steering technology had just begun globally, and domestically it was a blank slate. What's more, the development deadline was less than nine months, with the requirement to roll off the line before the Party's birthday on July 1, 1970. Without a mature R&D system or professional manufacturing equipment, numerous difficulties lay ahead. With an unyielding spirit, LiuGong's people formed a "three-in-one" task force, dissected the prototype inch by inch, and overcame technical challenges with self-made equipment.

The first articulated wheel loader Z450 was born at LiuGong

On July 1, 1970, China's first articulated wheel loader Z450 roared out of the factory, and at that moment, all perseverance and sweat turned into the glory of the era. This heavy-duty equipment, with a rated load of 5 tons and a power of 220 horsepower, was equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as articulated frame, hydrostatic mechanical transmission, and air-assisted hydraulic disc brakes, setting the technological prototype for China's ZL series wheel loaders. This model later won the National Science Conference Award in 1978, becoming a milestone achievement in the industry.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Machinery used Z450 as a blueprint to establish the product series standards for Chinese wheel loaders, and "Z450" evolved into "ZL50," forming an industry structure with LiuGong as the technological source. The historical peak annual production and sales of Chinese wheel loaders exceeded 200,000 units, accounting for more than two-thirds of the global market share. The starting point of all this glory was the Z450 born in the LiuGong workshop during the difficult years. It can be said that without the breakthrough of Z450, there would be no glory of China's wheel loader industry today - this is the first "from 0 to 1" leap that LiuGong brought to the entire industry.

If the Z450 allowed LiuGong to stand at the forefront of the industry, then the birth of the ZL50G high-altitude wheel loader thirty years later allowed LiuGong to take the lead globally and step onto the world stage.

In 2000, the second phase of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, "Gala Section," was about to commence. This 1142-kilometer-long heavenly road, with ninety percent of its route above 4000 meters in altitude, faced harsh cold, oxygen deficiency, and strong radiation in the "forbidden zone of life," with equipment requirements
