Komatsu's hard rock mines in Guangdong, quarries in Guangxi, and high-altitude areas in Western Sichuan are undergoing extreme tests with a batch of Komatsu PC395LC-11M0 hybrid excavators. The commonality of these places is: hard geology, high operational intensity, and complex working conditions. Under normal circumstances, it is difficult for equipment fuel consumption in such environments to look "good".

However, Takatomo Kimishita, Deputy Head of the Original Business Department of Komatsu (China), provided a set of impressive working condition data feedback: "The trial results in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Western Sichuan, which are heavy-load and high-altitude harsh sites, exceeded our expectations."

Is the "hardcore" working condition fuel-saving paradox quietly resolved?

The harder the construction site, the more fuel-efficient it is? What does Komatsu's hybrid excavator rely on? The answer lies in those "difficult" sites.

"Why did we choose to conduct field trials in Guangdong, Guangxi, and Western Sichuan?" said Takatomo Kimishita, "Because users in these places are more knowledgeable about the use of hybrid equipment, and local conditions are more testing of the real level of Komatsu hybrid products." In a large quarry in Guangxi, a PC395LC-11M0 was arranged on a high-intensity loading line. The rock here is hard, and the equipment operates almost around the clock, which is traditionally a "fuel-consuming" scenario. However, the trial results were the opposite: under the same amount of work, this hybrid excavator consumed less fuel than the traditional fuel models of the same tonnage of Komatsu. Operators reported that the equipment had sufficient digging force when dealing with hard rock, and the compound movements were smooth, and what surprised them was that the heavier the work, the more obvious the fuel-saving effect.

In a large earthwork site in Guangdong, the PC395LC-11M0 also withstood high-intensity tests, and the energy recovery and release process of the hybrid system were smooth and did not affect the working rhythm. In the high-altitude areas of Western Sichuan, the equipment still maintained stable power output in low-oxygen environments.

"From the data, the longer the working time and the higher the load of the mine, the higher the acceptance of Komatsu hybrid models by users," Takatomo Kimishita summarized. "The user feedback is mainly concentrated on 'smooth acceleration and good response during rotation' and 'the reduction of fuel costs is tangible.'"

Why can hybrid technology be "more fuel-efficient" under heavy working conditions?

The key behind this lies in the logic of Komatsu's hybrid technology. Traditional excavators often fail to fully utilize the kinetic energy in the form of heat during rotation braking. The PC395LC-11M0, through the electric rotation motor, converts this energy into electrical energy for storage and instantly releases it at high speed when the equipment needs to accelerate or lift, thereby assisting the engine and enhancing power output. This system not only reduces fuel consumption but also reduces the load on the engine.

"The more frequent the rotation and the heavier the working conditions, the more opportunities for energy recovery, and the more prominent the fuel-saving effect." This is the technical principle behind "the harder the construction site, the more fuel-efficient."

Takatomo Kimishita further explained that the PC395LC-11M0 plays an important role in Komatsu (China)'s product matrix in "proving that fuel efficiency and work efficiency can be achieved at the same time." The core target users are medium and large mine users who are facing the dual challenges of production cost pressure and environmental compliance. He calculated an account for the reporter: fuel costs account for about half of the total life cycle cost of an excavator. "Our goal is to solve the key pain point of rising user fuel costs through Komatsu's hybrid technology."

Why are users willing to buy? The confidence behind the extra-long warranty

For mining customers, equipment attendance rate is the lifeline. Faced with new technology, users inevitably have concerns. How does Komatsu dispel these concerns?

"It is precisely to eliminate users' concerns about hybrid technology that we have introduced an extra-long warranty policy for the five major electrical components of the hybrid system," said Takatomo Kimishita.
