Powerful Alliance for Intelligent Safety
Recently, MAN Truck & Bus joined forces with globally renowned fire truck manufacturer Rosenbauer to unveil a groundbreaking vehicle at INTERSCHUTZ 2026 in Germany—the Rosenbauer L32A-XS electric aerial firefighting vehicle. This model is the first to feature the new MAN eTGM all-electric chassis, integrating advanced electric chassis technology with zero-emission, ultra-quiet electric aerial work systems, setting a new industry benchmark in the field of firefighting aerial equipment.
This vehicle has a total weight of less than 16 tons and an axle load of less than 10 tons, making it the world's first model of its kind to comply with the load limits for firefighting operation areas in Germany. At the same time, the vehicle meets the core performance standard DIN EN 14043 for class 23/12 fully automatic aerial platforms, capable of rescuing personnel from a height of 23 meters within a 12-meter working radius. During the exhibition, the first mass-produced model was officially handed over to the first customer—the Fire Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia (IdF NRW).
Rosenbauer's International Sales Director, Andreas Zeller, said, "Mounting the L32A-XS electric aerial platform on the MAN eTGM chassis has allowed us to achieve an unprecedented breakthrough. Marcel Völkert, a representative from the Fire Academy of North Rhine-Westphalia, said, "We are continuously promoting the application of electrification technology in our training business. The L32A-XS electric vehicle model gives us an aerial platform under 16 tons that can be put into regular service without additional approval or special inspection. This is an important milestone in our training and practical application."
High Efficiency and Ultra-Quiet Performance
The Rosenbauer L32A-XS electric aerial firefighting vehicle, built on the MAN eTGM chassis, achieves local zero emissions and ultra-quiet operation while retaining full combat capabilities. The vehicle is equipped with the MAN eCD210 central drive unit, integrating an electric motor with the MAN TipMatic two-speed gearbox, centrally mounted on the frame, delivering a continuous output of 210 kilowatts (285 horsepower) and a torque of 800 newton-meters; a high-torque mechanical power take-off (mPTO) provides power for the aerial platform. The emergency driving mode, developed specifically for emergency vehicles, combined with a powerful powertrain, can further optimize driving dynamics and achieve excellent acceleration performance.
The vehicle is equipped with two sets of lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 178 kilowatt-hours and a usable capacity of 160 kilowatt-hours. Under urban conditions, it can meet about 10 regular calls (each trip is about 8 kilometers) without the need for mid-trip recharging; suburban conditions can meet about 4 calls (each response trip is about 20 kilometers). The DC fast-charging power is up to 250 kilowatts, and the battery charge can go from 5% to 80% in about 33 minutes.
Electric Drive for Agility and Precision
With the L32A-XS electric vehicle model, Rosenbauer has fully iterated the aerial platform technology for complex and extreme operation scenarios. The vehicle is specifically designed for narrow and restricted space operations, relying on the XS compact design to achieve a very small working rotation radius and high-precision platform control. The rescue compartment can smoothly rise and fall along the building facade without levels, and the entire ladder system can also flexibly rotate in narrow spaces, adapting to narrow alleys, high-density urban areas, and other complex operation environments, while maintaining flexibility and safety throughout the operation
