CRCHI Micro Tunneling Equipment Achieves Success in Nicaraguan Sewage Expansion

June 27,2026

Conquering Overseas Markets, Good News Abounds

On June 19th, CRCHI's micro tunnel boring machine (TBM) played a crucial role in the successful completion of the first section of the Managua sewage expansion project in Nicaragua. This marks the first introduction of a TBM in Nicaragua and the first entry of domestically produced TBM equipment into the Central American municipal sewage infrastructure sector, providing a Chinese solution for local livelihood pollution control projects.

This equipment was tailored for the complex conditions of the project, featuring a compact structure and comprehensive functional configuration. The machine adopts a highly integrated modular main unit design, allowing for flexible disassembly and relocation, compatible with small launching and receiving well construction scenarios, effectively reducing the amount of excavation required for the foundation pit. During the construction of the first section, the equipment operated smoothly and efficiently, with an average daily advance of 10 meters, completing the jacking task on schedule and laying a solid foundation for subsequent construction of the project.

On June 22nd, CRCHI's first TBM exported to Dubai arrived at its destination. Designed for Dubai's high-temperature and water-scarce conditions, as well as the need for small working well launching and rapid relocation, the equipment features a highly integrated complete machine design, equipped with a step-by-step propulsion system and a cooling technology for confined spaces, significantly enhancing its adaptability to various working conditions. The equipment is about to be transported to the construction site to contribute to the construction of local municipal pipeline networks.

Leading Domestically, Winning the Future

On June 21st, a TBM independently developed by CRCHI aided in the successful completion of the DN2400 TBM section of the Chaoyang Slope tunnel in the Beibu Gulf water resource allocation project in Guangxi.

This section is 1095 meters long, mainly passing through sandstone interbedded with mudstone and sand-mudstone interlayers. During construction, the project faced geological challenges such as high-pressure groundwater, alternating soft and hard surrounding rocks, clay clogging the cutter head, and developed fault fracture zones. The equipment was specifically configured with an efficient rock-breaking system, bentonite automatic grouting, and a long-distance high-precision guidance system, achieving a maximum daily advance of 12 meters, providing equipment support for the project's timely progress.

Additionally, the world's first three-circle pipe curtain machine "Lucheng No." developed by CRCHI has already excavated over 50 meters in the Sanya River mouth channel pipe curtain structure project, successfully overcoming technical challenges brought to the equipment by complex conditions such as soft upper and hard lower strata, high-strength rock layers, and clay mud cakes.

In recent years, CRCHI has been deeply engaged in the field of underground pipeline construction equipment, having formed a complete product matrix covering hard rock TBMs, retractable pipe curtain machines, top shields, rapid lining machines, and combined pipe curtain machines, continuously providing equipment strength for domestic and international underground space development and infrastructure construction.
