XCMG Electric Tractor-Trailer Covers 240km with 70% Battery Remaining on Descent
June 28,2026
In the Inner Mongolia mining area, hundreds of XCMG 400-kWh standard load tractors travel day and night between the mine and the cargo yard. They haul coal and stone materials, and navigate long and steep slopes, making this the toughest test ground for electric heavy trucks and the most powerful validation field for XCMG's energy recovery technology.
Let's look at the results first
XCMG 400-kWh Standard Load Tractor
The entire journey is 240 kilometers, including 72 kilometers of mountain roads
After completion, 70% of the battery charge remains
The XCMG 400-kWh standard load tractor sets off with a full charge, travels 120 kilometers unloaded, and arrives at the stone loading point halfway up the mountain with 52% of the battery charge left. After loading, it continues to travel several kilometers uphill to the summit, where the battery charge drops to 23%, which is quite impressive for an electric heavy truck in terms of energy consumption control. However, the performance of the XCMG 400-kWh standard load tractor on the downhill section under load is truly impressive.
Descending, here we go.
With the energy recovery gear shifted to the fifth gear, the battery charge number on the dashboard starts to jump in reverse. 23%, 25%, 27%, 29%, 32%, 35%... After going through 16 kilometers of steep slopes and 20 kilometers of gentle slopes, the energy is replenished all the way, and upon reaching the destination, 70% of the battery charge remains.
XCMG's independently developed six-gear energy recovery technology increases the reverse torque by 66% compared to the previous generation, turning every downhill into an opportunity to replenish energy. During downhill, the motor generates electricity in reverse drag, and the braking system is cooled simultaneously; when the brakes are applied, energy recovery is paused, allowing the motor to buffer. The alternating cooperation of the two not only ensures braking safety but also maximizes energy recovery efficiency.
The driver calculated the cost: for the same 200-kilometer mining route, a traditional diesel heavy truck would consume 500 yuan worth of fuel for one trip. Switching to the XCMG 400-kWh standard load tractor, with heavy load and long downhill, energy recovery replenishes the battery all the way, and the round trip electricity consumption is minimized to 70 kWh, with an estimated cost of only 70 yuan per kWh.
The significant difference in energy consumption costs is not only due to the difference between oil and electricity prices but also due to XCMG's meticulous management of every kWh. Card friends said that they drove fast that day to save time, and the energy recovery was not maximized; under normal circumstances, the recovery rate can reach around 82%.
XCMG's new energy heavy truck sales continue to lead the industry, backed by continuous leadership in wealth creation capabilities. The integrated efficiency of the drive system is 96.6%, with intelligent torque control, six-gear energy recovery, and 0.1℃ precise temperature control, making green transportation more and more electrified.
