Komatsu Strengthens Global AI System to Deepen AI Applications Across the Entire

Komatsu Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as: Komatsu) has accelerated the phased implementation of AI applications on a global scale, strengthened its AI promotion system, and initiated the large-scale deployment of AI across the entire value chain, including R&D, production, sales, and service.
For a long time, Komatsu has been deeply cultivating information and communication technology and data applications through solutions such as Komtrax (Komatsu Machine Information Communication System), KOM-MICS (Komatsu Intelligent Manufacturing and Industrial Control System), AHS (Autonomous Haulage System for mines), and intelligent construction, committed to creating new value. The operational data of construction machinery, construction operation data, and on-site practical experience accumulated through the above systems have become important assets of Komatsu's core competitiveness.
Based on these data assets, Komatsu has carried out AI pilot applications and created application cases in various regions and business segments, and promoted global experience sharing, continuously consolidating the foundation of AI applications and strengthening talent cultivation, including AI literacy training. In the future, the company will further accelerate these measures, promote business transformation across the global value chain, and create greater value for customers.
Since the fiscal year 2023, Komatsu has promoted AI application projects globally, creating and promoting application cases in various business fields. By conducting workshops, application practice training, and regular global meetings with various regions, sharing application cases and key issues, the various sites have accumulated rich application experience and initially formed a collaborative system to support the global promotion of AI.
Based on previous practices and collaborations, Komatsu will further accelerate AI applications across the entire company and globally, and lay the foundation for establishing a Global Center of Excellence after 2027. At the same time, it will steadily promote the popularization and implementation of AI applications in Japan, consolidating the foundation for global promotion.
In terms of specific measures, in April 2026, Komatsu established a core functional department in Japan responsible for safely and efficiently promoting AI applications; in May, it completed the selection of about 500 AI promotion leaders. Subsequently, these leaders will be at the core of solving on-site issues, creating successful cases, and strengthening the system foundation to support global promotion. In addition, in the process of promoting AI applications, Komatsu will continue to improve the AI literacy of all employees and improve the system construction from the perspective of information security and risk management.

Main AI Application Cases Implemented
1. Improving R&D Process Quality and Efficiency
Introducing generative AI in the software development process, including code understanding, code generation, code review, and test case writing, to improve R&D efficiency and product quality.
2. Optimization and Upgrade in the Production Field
Relying on KOM-MICS data and AI technology, anomaly detection AI is used for quality management and predictive maintenance; using image processing AI, not only the equipment status but also the personnel and material information in the production site are digitized in real-time, and applications such as production plan optimization have been realized.
3. AI Robot Application in Service Business
To facilitate technicians and dealers to quickly obtain technical information, Komatsu has launched an AI robot that can perform cross-database searches on maintenance manuals, service notices, and other documents, and supports natural language Q&A, significantly improving service efficiency and response quality. It has been put into use in Japan, the United States, Europe, Australia, and Central and South America, and is beginning to be promoted in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
4. Predictive Maintenance Based on Construction Machinery Operation Data
By analyzing equipment operation data accumulated by systems such as Komtrax (Komatsu Machine Information Communication System) using AI, applications such as component life prediction, anomaly and fault detection, and reasonable overhaul cycle determination have been realized. The company is further deepening the application to help improve customer equipment operation rates, reduce maintenance costs, and support dealers in providing more professional service solutions.
