On July 3, 2026, Weichai Power's WP15 in-cylinder direct-injection heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine passed authoritative environmental protection emission certification tests, becoming the first in China and globally to complete all core verifications at the national level for heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine products. This certification breaks through the key barrier of environmental compliance, laying a solid foundation for the zero-carbon commercialization of heavy-duty equipment.
The WP15 in-cylinder direct-injection heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine passed rigorous tests under all operating conditions, with pollutant emissions far better than national standards, and carbon dioxide emissions nearly zero. It achieves ultra-low nitrogen oxide emissions through self-developed flexible in-cylinder direct-injection and other technologies, eliminating the need for after-treatment systems and being adaptable to future stricter environmental regulations.
The WP15 in-cylinder direct-injection heavy-duty hydrogen internal combustion engine ranks among the top tier globally in comprehensive performance. With a displacement of 14.6L, the engine's maximum power in this test is 600 horsepower, and the peak torque is 2800N・m; the highest effective thermal efficiency of this model reaches 46.8%. The product parts have a compatibility rate of over 90% with traditional fuel engine models, continuing the advantages of internal combustion engines in terms of reliability and durability. It has a relaxed requirement for hydrogen purity, effectively reducing end-use costs, and can be widely applied in various scenarios such as long-haul heavy trucks, mining, ports, and power generation units.
After years of deep cultivation in the hydrogen energy field, Weichai Power has built a complete R&D and industrial system for hydrogen internal combustion engines, laid out multiple technical routes, and created a full power range product matrix. It has led the industry's first national key R&D project for hydrogen internal combustion engines, setting a new record for thermal efficiency among global peers. In collaboration with China National Heavy Duty Truck, it launched the country's first commercial hydrogen internal combustion engine heavy truck and achieved the first grid connection of a pure hydrogen power generation unit in the country.
