283 Meters! Zoomlion R4300-200 Completes Capping of Luguhu Bridge Main Pylon

October 01,2026

On September 29, with the final steel-concrete pylon crown set smoothly in place, the Shangri-La-bank main pylon of the Luguhu Super-Large Bridge on the Xichang-Xiangjiba Expressway (Xixiang Expressway) was successfully capped. Two Zoomlion R4300-200 large tower cranes stood guard at the pylons on both banks throughout, providing core equipment support for this key milestone of the mega-project.

As a critical control project of the Xixiang Expressway, the Luguhu Bridge has a main span of 1,680 meters—currently the world's longest spatial-cable suspension bridge—integrating the world-class technical attributes of "two firsts and four extremes." Both bank pylons adopt a twin-column portal structure, with 35 standard segments on each of the left and right columns of a single pylon. The two Zoomlion R4300-200 large tower cranes stand on both banks, independently handling the hoisting of all components for the corresponding pylons.

The capped Shangri-La-bank main pylon stands 283 meters tall—currently the world's highest steel-concrete composite bridge pylon in mountainous areas, and the first core engineering achievement among the bridge's four "world extremes" to reach physical completion. From the precise closure of the 180-meter middle crossbeam to the hoisting of the final 283-meter summit segment, the last 103-meter climb of the pylon was the most complex and demanding phase of the entire construction cycle.

As the working height exceeded 200 meters, the canyon "venturi effect" amplified dramatically, with a marked increase in the frequency and intensity of sudden gusts.

The R4300-200 offers a maximum lifting capacity of 200 t and a jib length of 80 m. With high rigidity and low deformation, it can withstand force-12 typhoons, easily coping with canyon gusts. Its easy assembly/disassembly, low maintenance and good transportability also make it highly adaptable to complex mountainous-canyon conditions.

Meanwhile, the R4300-200 tower crane comes standard with more than 20 intelligent safety control technologies—such as load-adaptive speed, hover anti-slip, anti-overhoist and anti-collision—building an all-round high-altitude safety line. It ensures large-tonnage components are lifted stably and positioned without deviation. Its remote visual operation function relays real-time footage of high-altitude component attitudes, allowing operators on the ground to perform precise high-altitude hoisting and effectively solve the challenge of installing ultra-high pylons. Up to the capping milestone, the Shangri-La-bank pylon segment hoisting achieved zero safety accidents throughout.

Back in June, the Xichang-bank pylon of the bridge was successfully capped. The smooth capping of the Shangri-La-bank pylon this time marks that the Luguhu Bridge construction has officially moved from the pylon construction phase to the critical preparation period for main cable erection.
