Mountain Lifting at Its Best! Zoomlion's World-Largest Wind-Turbine Tower Crane

November 07,2026

Recently, at the 50 MW wind-power project in Huguan County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, the world's largest wind-turbine tower crane—Zoomlion's LW3600-240NB—completed its construction debut. Atop the towering Taihang Mountains, the aurora-green crane steadily sent turbine blades more than a hundred meters into the air, providing core equipment support for efficient project progress.

As one of the first pilot projects under Shanxi's 'Wind-Riding Action' to boost rural revitalization, the project plans to install 8 hybrid-tower units of 6.25 MW across the ravine-strewn Taihang Mountains. The wind farm averages over 1,400 m above sea level, with turbine positions scattered along the ridge and some slopes near 20 degrees, leaving conventional large-tonnage crawlers little flat ground to work from; precise placement of 160 m hub-height major components is a real challenge. Against these mountain-construction difficulties, Zoomlion's wind-tower crane improved scenario fit through a series of 'addition and subtraction' designs.

In equipment performance, safety and reliability, Zoomlion uses 'addition' to lift higher, heavier and steadier. The LW3600-240NB has a maximum lifting capacity of 240 t and a maximum hoist height of 241 m, easily covering hybrid-tower hoisting for 10 MW-plus turbines without extra equipment for super-tall towers. Its extended large-angle eagle-beak jib keeps hundred-ton nacelles steady and smooth even in ridge winds, completely eliminating jam risks; combined with fixed-radius hoisting and precise-lifting dual technology, it cuts repeated high-altitude alignment time.

In footprint and process time, Zoomlion uses 'subtraction' to make the wind-tower crane more efficient, eco-friendly and quicker to install and relocate. The LW3600-240NB needs only a 35×55 m site—1,925 m² in total. The smaller footprint allows more flexible mountain deployment and more room in unit layout, reducing disturbance to the Taihang terrain and greatly easing land-acquisition coordination. The tower's standard sections use an innovative clamp-tray structure for easier, labor-saving assembly; the moving pulley needs no auxiliary crane, so the support crane need not stay on site throughout; with excellent modular design, under ideal conditions the full teardown-transport-assembly relocation can be done in as fast as 32 hours, giving strong schedule support to large-MW, super-tall-tower wind projects.

Once the Huguan 50 MW wind project is completed, its estimated annual grid power is about 113 million kWh, effectively supporting regional economic and social development. Starting from the Taihang Mountains, Zoomlion's world-largest wind-turbine tower crane LW3600-240NB will also serve more super-tall-tower, larger-unit-capacity mountain wind farms, lifting green and clean energy to new heights with leading, hard-core strength.
