Allison Transmissions Tackle Extreme Conditions at Mongolia ER Coal Mine

In summer, temperatures in South Gobi Province can climb to 40 degrees Celsius, with heat haze off the ground distorting the distant ridgelines. In winter the same region faces extreme cold of minus 35 degrees Celsius, with snow cover lasting up to 100 days. This is the reality at Mongolia's ER coal mine, located in that southern province at an elevation of 1,300 to 1,600 meters. "Transmission failures were our biggest headache. There was no professional repair support in Mongolia, so we had to work it out ourselves," said Homtai Baiyar, equipment manager at Vertex Mining Partner. "We chose Allison transmissions for the new mining trucks mainly because of their low failure rate, and also because Allison has service network coverage in Mongolia. Timely repairs give us real peace of mind. In 2025 we decided to buy another 100 mining trucks with Allison as standard, based on actual operating experience."

"The conditions at the ER mine would rank among the most extreme at any mine anywhere in the world," said Wang Wei, after-sales service manager at Tongli Heavy Industry. "The durability of the Allison 4800 WBD is outstanding and sharply reduces the fleet's downtime risk."
