Industry's First Grade-1 Energy-Efficiency Electric Heavy Truck: Decoding XCMG

November 05,2026

Recently, XCMG Hanjing earned the first Grade-1 energy-efficiency certification in the electric tractor-truck industry. The efficiency test mainly examined the vehicle's energy performance across four dimensions — payload, air conditioning, drive and recharging — under different operating conditions, grading overall performance into efficiency levels 1 through 5. Hanjing's ability to reach Grade 1 relies on the systematic integration of multiple core technologies.

Low Drag, Light Weight: Easing the Burden of Long-Haul Driving

Payload efficiency measures the electricity consumed per unit of transported cargo — how much power it takes to move one ton of goods one kilometer.

When heavy trucks run long-haul trunk routes, they travel on highways for extended periods at speeds around 80 km/h. The higher the speed, the more power is needed to overcome air resistance, and the more electricity is consumed. Hanjing adopts a native "Blue Whale" low-drag cab, optimizing body surfaces and frontal area to reduce air resistance at high speed and thus cut electricity consumption. At the same time, through overall structural optimization and the use of lightweight materials such as high-strength steel and aluminum alloys, the vehicle sheds weight, reducing the extra electricity consumed by its own mass under the same payload.

When driving on uphill and downhill sections, Hanjing can dynamically adjust its power-distribution strategy and energy-recovery intensity — boosting torque uphill to ensure ample power, and strengthening energy recovery downhill — further improving payload efficiency.

Efficient Drive: Reducing Energy-Transfer Losses

Electricity loses some energy entering the battery from the charging pile, and loses more again traveling from the battery to the wheels. Recharging efficiency and drive efficiency examine the actual utilization of electricity after these two losses — metrics that, for truck owners, determine how much of the electricity they pay for actually goes into driving.

Relying on a full-domain 800V high-voltage platform, XCMG Hanjing reduces current under the same charging power and vehicle output power, thereby cutting heat losses during charging and transmission; it is equipped with SiC (silicon carbide) power devices to further lower energy-conversion losses; and its self-developed efficient e-drive axle, the "Hanqing," uses an integrated design that shortens the transmission chain and reduces losses at each drive stage. Multiple technologies working together cut energy losses across the entire driving chain.

Centralized Temperature Control: Unified Scheduling of Heat Distribution

Air-conditioning efficiency measures the electricity consumed by the vehicle's overall thermal management. Hanjing adopts a heat-pump centralized thermal-management system that uniformly schedules the cooling and heating needs of the battery, motor and cabin, reducing the redundant power consumption caused by each system running separately. At the same time, in low-temperature conditions this system can also recover motor waste heat to meet heating demands.
