Redefining 'Waterproof'! XCMG's New-Generation E-Axle Keeps Running Underwate
October 11,2026
A fully energized electric drive axle assembly is completely submerged in water, with 800 volts of high voltage continuously fed in while the motor spins at high speed underwater, repeatedly performing braking, reversing and start-stop operations—and the high-voltage system stays stable throughout. This scene took place at the global launch of XCMG's all-new new-energy heavy truck.
The immersion test breaks industry convention
IPX7 is the common waterproof standard in the commercial vehicle industry: a core component is soaked in one meter of water for 30 minutes while de-energized, then judged合格 (pass) if it still functions normally—enough for ordinary rain and snow. But real-world operating conditions are far more complex than a lab.
Heavy rain and urban flooding, water-filled potholes, muddy job sites... wheel wading depths often exceed expectations, and the vehicle's core components face the risk of energized contact with water at any time. XCMG's R&D team proactively raised the validation bar, putting the new-generation e-axle through 'powered diving' with full underwater testing of braking, reversing and start-stop—subjecting it to the dual trial of extreme sealing and insulation.
XCMG's engineers note that this move is pioneering for the industry. XCMG is the first to validate, through a complete test system, the extreme scenarios users may encounter, providing protection for safe driving in rainy weather.
Efficiency wins by redefining the standardIn the past, industry drive-system efficiency generally sat around 91%. Through systematic technological innovation, XCMG's new-generation e-axle pushes that ceiling higher.
The efficiency gain does not rely on a single technology but on the system integration of multiple ones: an 800V high-voltage platform with lower current losses so every kilowatt-hour travels farther under heavy loads and long hauls; a flat-wire oil-cooled motor with greater power density and better heat dissipation, delivering stable output through sustained climbs and high-speed cruising; a two-stage transmission design that further cuts mechanical losses... Combined with technologies such as low-rolling-resistance bearings, the system achieves industry-leading peak efficiency, lowering vehicle energy consumption and extending range while significantly boosting operational efficiency.
XCMG Automobile not only developed the e-axle TCU control logic and underlying code in-house, but has also secured dozens of patents around the electric drive axle.
Safety is the ultimate luxury.
Reliability is the first principle.
From powered diving to full-stack self-development.
Hard-core engineering defines a new height for China's e-axle.
