Content Validity:Schaeffler has held its first Industrial Bearing Technology Day in China. The venue is Nanjing, and the theme says it all: focus on bearings, beyond bearings.
Bearings are still the foundation: Mancrodur steel, aluminium cages, long-life lubricants, conductive seals, a full chain from materials to precision manufacturing.
But the message is bigger. Schaeffler is moving from components to the machines those components run in. In mining and metallurgy, where loads are heavy and contamination constant, it now delivers solutions focused on uptime and lifecycle value.
Dr. Zhang Yilin, CEO of Schaeffler China, puts it simply: no more developing behind closed doors. The company works with domestic off-highway partners on joint customization, targeting shock loads, pollution and the electrical challenges of electrification.
Then the off-highway zone. Motors, electric drive axles, steering units, sensors, linear drives, high-speed bearings. Not one bearing, but a system. In an electrified machine, power output, transmission, actuators and sensors must work together.
Its InVerse Industry 4.0 platform tracks vibration, temperature, speed and load, turning maintenance into condition-based prediction.
For machinery makers, the takeaway is clear: what Schaeffler offers is not a bearing, but system capability for extreme conditions, electrification and total cost of ownership.
