On December 6th, with a single command, the 'China Railway 1294' shield machine slowly started, marking the official launch of the excavation mission for China's largest diameter shield machine. This is not only a milestone for China's high-end equipment manufacturing 'going global' but also a significant practice of Sino-Turkish cooperation. The Sariyer-Kilyos Highway Tunnel, spanning 7 kilometers, will be completed using traditional drilling and blasting methods as well as shield tunneling. China Railway Equipment, in response to complex geological conditions, has developed the 'China Railway 1294' with a diameter of 13.65 meters and weighing 2850 tons, equipped with advanced technology to ensure efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly construction. Turkish Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that this is Turkey's first highway project to use a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), which is of great significance to Istanbul's transportation network and socio-economic development. Once completed, the travel time from the northern residents to the city center will be reduced from 35 minutes to just 5 minutes, greatly facilitating local residents' travel and consumption.
