Sany rolls out world's first 250,000-ton-meter nuclear ring rail crane

September 01,2026

On August 31, the world’s first 250,000 tonne-meter ring crane rolled off the line at Sany’s Huzhou Industrial Park in Zhejiang. Developed jointly by Sany Heavy Lifting and China Energy Engineering Group Guangdong Thermal Power Engineering Lifting Co., Ltd., it solves the heavy-lift challenge of the Hualong One 2.0 “one crane, two reactor islands” construction model. The milestone marks a key localization breakthrough, as China’s ultra-large-tonnage nuclear lifting equipment breaks foreign technology monopolies.

This 250,000 tonne-meter ring crane excels in performance, efficiency, and intelligent safety. It uses a 137 m + 66 m super-long boom combination. At large nuclear-work radii, its lifting capacity is roughly 50% higher than comparable foreign products. A single position and one operating mode can meet all lifting requirements. The crane runs on full electric drive and connects directly to the industrial grid, delivering zero emissions and low noise. Deploying this equipment can cut nuclear project construction time by 15%, reduce operating costs to one quarter of conventional diesel machines, and lower site and logistics costs by 20% and 30%, respectively. For safety, it features intelligent anti-collision, 360° surround view, remote fault diagnosis, rope-disorder recognition, face recognition, and operation-behavior recognition. These digital safeguards minimize on-site operating risks.

At the rollout ceremony, Yu Hongfu—Director of Sany Group, Vice Chairman of Sany Heavy Industry, and President of Sany Heavy Industry—gave the boom-lifting command. The crane slowly raised its boom, showing the commanding presence of a national heavy-lift flagship. Xie Tao, Sany Group Vice President and Chairman of the Heavy Lifting Division, formally announced the successful rollout of the world’s first 250,000 tonne-meter ring crane. Colored smoke filled the air and applause erupted as the audience witnessed a historic moment for China’s high-end lifting equipment.

From the “Global No. 1 Lift” 4,500-ton crawler crane to today’s launch of the 250,000 tonne-meter ring crane, Sany has kept pushing the limits of heavy equipment technology in just five years.

Strong winds fill the sails; Sany is embarking on a new journey. Moving forward, Sany will stay true to its mission of “Quality Changes the World.” It will continue to focus on high-end nuclear power equipment, break through core technologies, iterate premium products, and partner with industry players to write a new chapter for China’s high-end equipment manufacturing.
